What is “place.” Place is somewhere, no matter where, people reside and where people can go physically or mentally. Place can affect lives because it can be a place where people go to make money or vent or have fun with friends and family or a place where someone can call home. It expresses identity and creates culture and values because people do certain things according to the place they are in. If the place happened to be a country like Korea, people would respect their elders no matter what and eat Korean dishes and do “Korean” activities. Places can help provide opportunities for people that they either need or want. For example, in a virtual world like Minecraft, it can give people the opportunity to escape all their real life stresses and problems even if it is temporary.
An artist that draws and paints about “place” is Viktoria Lapteva. In her art piece titled “Paradise Place”, Lapteva uses oil paints to illustrate how beautiful a place can be through colorful paintings and flowers. Any place can be beautiful if people just put the time and effort into not trashing it in the first place. It almost does look like a palace. Another artist to illustrate “place” is Sam Octigan in his work titled “No Place like Home.” In this art piece, Sam is trying to say that your mind and brain is the most important place in this world. It is where you build your foundation of your character and personality. No matter how hard your day was or where you ended up physically, you will always have your home that is unique to only you hence the title “No Place like Home.” Flannery O’Connor is a American novelist who wrote once in her novel, “Wise Blood”, that a sense of place is only a place because of the greatest place, your mind. Your mind makes up a place and thinks of a place wherever you go.
There are several places that can be an alternate place you can go to experience the same thing. For example, because of COVID 19, schools have been shut down to protect its students and staff from the virus so zoom was used to provide the same education but just in a different way, online and not on campus face to face. I believe that places can always be better no matter how good it may be and zoom is no exception. Obviously people would like to go to school on campus and not have to be in front of their computer screens for hours on hours everyday. However, certain places like restaurants or other businesses can adapt to the Corona virus by setting boundaries and making sure that people are being safe and clean by wearing masks and staying six feet away from each other. Different generations experience places differently because of the way they think. Different generations think differently than from other generations
In my opinion, place is everywhere and everything. It can be a place where people or animals go to relax or to enjoy time alone or with friends. Place can also be your thoughts and memories because it can help provide emotional support. I believe America would still be the same in the years to come, 2024 and 2050 with only small changes and advancements to technology but nothing way too big like flying cars. I personally believe that the pandemic would not stop next year and that we would still have to keep logging into zoom to go to classes so my place is my home and wherever my friends decide to hang out for the day. However, after graduation, I hope my experience with places can be somewhere I go to relax and a place where only me and my loved ones can go together.
